Things are going well so far on my first project. We actually started a little early since things are still in the planning stages. So far we've been trying to get a grip on what is currently in production and where things are located for the upgrade we're going to write. We're basically taking an old ASP.net site that and upgrading it to use the companies global core. All in all it doesn't sound like it will be too much of a problem.
I did find one interesting application that was written in Visual Basic 6. As best as I can tell it is a set of COM+ objects and an Exe that gets kicked off from a scheduler. The challenge here is that nobody really knows how it works since there are no docs on the beast. The good thing here is that there doesn't seem to be a lot of code to deal with. I suspect that we might be able to offload some of the processing that it does into SQL Server and perhaps web service the touch points. I wont really know for sure until I can get a look at the exiting code base and see how and where it is called from.
From a SharePoint perspective.. I did get a chance to sit in on some demos and technical talks on MOSS. I'm hoping that my next project will have something to do with it. There sure are a lot of changes that I need to go over but I'm hoping to grab a virtual machine so I can kick the tires a bit and code some sample web parts and web services.
